Engaged...

My dear dear friend KeriAnn came and visited Oregon a couple weeks ago. I'm so thankful!!! We picked out fabric for the bridesmaids dresses and wandered all over Portland looking at churches only to settle on the one we started at. I was so blessed to have her here for the day to be a part of wedding things. I'm just grateful for the day together! She took some really fun pictures of Jeremy and I while she was here. What a sweet gift! Thanks for sharing your amazing talent with us Friend!!!

Here's our story...

So first of all I need to say I am the most blessed girl in the world. With that said here's our engagement story...

Jeremy's birthday was on Monday so we decided to spend all day Saturday together to celebrate. Jeremy's mom and I decided to surprise Jeremy with a little birthday party at the end of the day. Jeremy's parents were coming down to surprise him for the weekend.

Jeremy and I left on Saturday morning and had breakfast with my parents and brother. From there we took off and headed to Portland. We wandered around Ikea, hung out at the zoo (we saw the new baby elephant...so cute) and had dinner at Jeremy's favorite place, The Olive Garden. Sometime during the day my mom sent me a text message that said, "I need you to stop at Uncle Dave's to get a pan I need for the party." I was thinking to myself what could possibly be so important about a pan, but I agreed to stop. Later on in the afternoon she sent another text asking us to stop and pick up a gallon of milk. By this time I'm getting annoyed because we're trying to get back for Jeremy's surprise party. So, my uncle Dave's house is the place where Jeremy stayed during the early part of our dating when he would come from Washington to visit. It was the first place he held my hand and we have lots of memories there.

After we stopped for milk we finally got to Uncle Dave's house. Jeremy asked me if I wanted to just run in and get the pan. My answer was, "How about you just go?" Jeremy, being quick on his feet suggested that we both go in. So we open the back door and I immediately see rose petals and a red fabric runner on the ground. I was totally confused and had no idea what was going on. The first thing that went through my head was, "It's not Dave's anniversary...he must be loaning out the back apartment." I told Jeremy that I thought we better not go in and because I didn't know what we were walking in on! :) Jeremy said, "I have a surprise for you." I still didn't get it and was thinking that whatever the surprise was he better give it to me in the car cause I didn't want to walk in on someone else's romantic evening. Jeremy said again, "No, I have a surprise for YOU." He took my hand and lead me around the corner. As soon as we rounded the corner I was staring into a room full of over 200 candles, rose petals, sparkling cider (a bottle of water for Jeremy), a bouquet of roses, and classical music playing in the background. I instantly realized what was happening! I can't even begin to explain how I felt. I was literally trembling.

Jeremy and I went into the room and sat down on the couch. He reached over and grabbed a beautiful scroll. He had written a letter to my parents explaining why he loves me, how he is committed to me, how he will always take care of me, etc. He told me he wanted to read it to me and as he read I couldn't stop crying. I knew that Jeremy loved me but I had no idea how much! After he finished reading he asked me if I would stand up. I told him I didn't think I could because my legs were still trembling and I was shaking. I somehow managed to stand up. Jeremy knelt down in front of me and asked me if I would marry him. Of course I said, "Yes!"

I was so happy and emotional that I didn't even look at the ring for several minutes. When I finally did I couldn't breath all over again. It is absolutely the most beautiful ring I have ever seen! Jeremy chose it himself and I wouldn't have picked something as perfect if I had done it myself. I haven't stopped looking at and I can't show it off enough.

Jeremy and I spent some time there just enjoying the moment and trying to soak in the fact that we're getting married! Then we went over to my parents for his "Surprise party." It turns out he and his parents and my entire family had tricked me. They flipped the surprise party on me and it was actually an engagement party.

It was a perfect day. I think the wedding is going to be in early August. We're excited, happy, overjoyed...

Storm

It's been a crazy time in the Ohta house this Christmas. The storm hit us pretty hard and we ended up losing power a week ago today. My brothers, Jeremy, and I all decided to come home early because good ol' Matt Zaffino was predicting another storm to hit right before Christmas. None of us wanted to be stuck away from home on Christmas so we took off early. We got home to find Dad melting snow on the antique cook stove. We had no power. For those of you who have lived in the country you understand that no power also means no water.

We ended up going into "Town" where Grandma lives to shower a couple times during the week. We used candles, propane heaters, melted snow, slept on the floor close to the wood stove, etc for the entire week. We ended up eating McDonalds for Christmas dinner cause it was too difficult too cook a Christmas meal without power. We opened our gifts snuggled up in blankets and could see our breath in the room. It was about 28 degrees I think. There were no Christmas tree lights either. The funny thing is it was wonderful just to all be together for Christmas. I couldn't be more thankful and I don't think we'll soon forget it.

Today (7 days later) our power finally came back on. We had a couple false alarms early in the day where the power would come on, we would jump up and down rejoicing, then it would go off again 15 minutes later. But, we're back on now and it looks like it's going to stay that way!!!

The Engagement

The weekend after I got the keys to my new place my little brother decided to get engaged. His fiance was born in Paris and had always joked about wanting to get engaged in front of the Eiffel Tower. Of course Josh can't afford to fly her to Paris and couldn't think of how to fly there without tipping her off, so he rented a 7' Eiffel Tower and set it up in her backyard where he first asked her out. Josh called us and the only thing he could seem to say was, "She said 'Yes!'"

Here's another picture just because they're cute.

move in

Here are the photos I promised. It's taken awhile to get the internet hooked up at the condo. We got all moved in last Saturday just in time for the winter storm to come. It's been in the 20's or below for most of the last week. With the snow and ice it slowed down our service. It's also slowed down the refrigerator being delivered (yes, we've been using the back porch as a freezer) and the bathroom tile from getting finished. Oh well. We're in and it's great!
